First Session of the African Parliament set for March 18, 2004

The Inauguration of the Pan African Parliament will take place on 18 March 2004 at the UNECA Conference Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, followed by the First Session of the Pan African Parliament from 18 to 20 March 2004. So far 30 constituent states of the African Union have elected 150 representatives to PAP.

The Chairperson of the African Union Assembly of Heads of State, H.E. Mr. Joachim Chissano, President of the AU Constituent Republic of Mozambique, will chair the Inaugural Session, as well as preside over the administration of the Oath of office of parliament and the election of the President of the Pan African Parliament.

Events at the inaugural session will include the election of the President and the four Vice Presidents of the Pan African Parliament, the swearing in of the Pan African Parliamentarians and the debate by the Members of the Pan African Parliament during its First Session.
