AUF NATIONAL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS

In the coming days, weeks and months, a comprehensive National Committee nomination list consisting of the most active Pan-African organizers who are AUF members will be compiled and posted on this website. If any AUF member is interested in nominating someone, or getting yourself nominated, just send an email to the AUF General Secretary. We'll send out a short series of questions to help us decide how you can proceed.

The nominations done by the AUF General Secretary are intended to give balance to representation fairly across Africa and the Diaspora. The National Comittee should reflect the general population, so that there should be gender balance, a wide range of professions, and varied backgrounds and life experiences.

Those AUF leaders who are already serving in one capacity or other need not confirm if they are simply being transfered to the new organ. Their names will be highlighted. Those who have been inactive have the chance to renew, or reconfirm their participation with a greater resolve. The members with whom we have lost contact, need to renew their membership (we apologize for being incommunicado...hopefully the restructuring will allow us to provide better membership services).

Nominated National Committee members will then have a few months in which to confirm if they accept their nominations, and are willing to serve and organize and vote for AUF officer holders. Later this year (most likely in June 2005), the AUF National Committee elections will take place to choose from among those confirmed National Committee members, the new AUF President and other AUF office holders.

The General Secretary of the AUF will review and confirm the dates and procedures for National Committee elections at the end of April 2005. The procedures for nominating, confirmation, and voting will depend on the level of interest and the numbers of people involved. Online voting may require giving passwords to voters. Options include mail-in votes, telephones or video conferencing, and actual physical balloting at membership forums.

Over the next few weeks and months we will be working to renew contacts, to address any concerns by members about the leadership process, and build a more robust membership program. We hope that members will have input into the process, as we retool to become more functional in parliamentary governance.
