NEW PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENTS FOR THE AFRICAN FRONT
The AUF has a new president, Mouhamed Taofic Youssouf. The AUF now has two Vice Presidents, and a caucus in the Pan African Parliament, as well as a Board of Directors led by the AUF General Secretary. The AUF President and Vice Presidents serve for a 3 year renewable term beginning in August, 2005.
Mouhamed Taofic Youssouf is a committed Pan Africanist organizer, and is fluent in Yoruba and several other African languages, as well as French and English. He is originally from Benin and has lived and worked in other states in Western Africa, as well as in Europe and North America. Mouhamed Taofic Youssouf replaces the past AUF president Kirimi Kaberia.
Dr. Caroline Kamau is AUF Vice President, together with Mongezi Sefika wa Nkomo. The combination of experiences, skills and attributes that they bring to the AUF leadership will help make the AUF a stronger and more coherent Pan African organization.
Dr. Caroline Kamau is fiercely committed to the Pan African cause, and is a writer, teacher, and a feminist. She was born in Nairobi, Kenya, and is currently a research associate at the University of Kent, in Britain, where she is doing work in the field of Group Processes, examining black people’s evaluations of compunction emotions/apologies and the role of identity strategies in this.
Mongezi Sefika wa Nkomo is an experienced Pan African organizer and Human Rights activist. He was founding chair of the Kingwilliamstown branch of the Black Peoples Convention (BPC) in January 1973, and was one of the organizers of cultural conscientizers of high school students from 1973, and this led to Soweto-led National Students and Youth Uprising of 1976. Mongezi is currently involved in multi-party initiatives throughout Africa, and is the founder of Azania Heritage International.
The president and vice presidents are leading members of the AUF National Committee. The National Committee consists of all the AUF membership representatives, delegates, and most active AUF members. The President and Vice Presidents are also statutory members of the AUF Executive Committee, and will represent the interests of the National Committee on the Executive Committee and within the AUF.
The Executive Committee consists of no more than nine [9] members, including the president, vice presidents, general secretary, deputy general secretaries, and three members of the AUF caucus in the Pan African Parliament.
