Half-formed, gasping and bothered
an elemental abortion is despairing
fragile, bloodied and dazed
in a time when fairness is taboo,
only for the suicidally reckless
is the quest for a just African order
at first like a child about to be born,
the semi-proposal, indecisive, hopeful
from a long-suffering womb arrives
finally, battered and crying, a baby
baffled and bearing the ancient marks
among hills and across wild savanna
