DIAMOND INDUSTRY IS A DE BEERS CARTEL
BLOOD DIAMONDS
As the US Congress rushes to finally seal the channels of entry into the USA of so called "Blood" diamonds, it is absolutely important to keep in mind that the diamonds industry consists of a SINGLE cartel which controls ALL diamonds...and which has a disgusting brutal reputation in all locations where diamonds are mined.
Certification of so called clean diamonds is going to legitimise a criminal and racist industry that preys on all kinds of people including Africans, Native Americans, ethnic minorities in Russian Siberia, and Australian blacks. It is time to kill this industry, there is nothing redeeming in it. The correct name of the cartel is the Central Selling Office (CSO) thats had the Westgate House near to the diamond merchants of Hatton Gardens, as their head quarters for the longest time, mingling with all kinds of international crime syndicates and mercenary regimes.
The general thesis goes something like this: Diamonds from conflict regions are blood diamonds and it is unethical to trade in these diamonds. Therefore we shall ban these diamonds and only trade in diamonds from Australia, Canada and Russia, south America and Asia.
In fact the vast majority of the worlds diamonds are blood diamonds.
Take the case of Australian Diamond industry: De Beers, after years of intimidating and corrupting Australia's government and helping to augment the racist regimes, gained control over the Australian diamond discovery. De Beers at that time was the core of the apartheid economy of South Africa. Australia's former Prime Minister Paul Keating, while opposition leader condemned in Parliament the 'negligence of the Government' in leaving the marketing of Australia's diamonds to 'the whim of individual companies and the caprice of De Beers.'
Malcolm Fraser, then Prime Minister of Australia also condemned the diamond industry. He complained 'I can see no advantage to Australia ... in having arrangements in which Australian diamond discoveries only serve to strengthen a South Africa monopoly'. The Australians tried but failed to keep DeBeers out of their political system. De Beers took control of Australian media and used it to boslter its tarnished image by riding on the back of the Australian diamond industry that was supposed unrelated to apartheid...which is bizarre considering the fact that Aborigin lands are the primary source of the gems. De Beers used a stable of well payed South African journalists to use the Australian press, the BBC and other major media outlets around the world.
Africa remains the source of 85% of the worlds supply of diamonds. The 15% that comes from the combined stocks of India, Brazil, Russia, Ukraine, and Canada lacks the market share and the quality to is not crucial to the conduct of the industry, and that mining in Africa will continue to play the determining role in pricing.
Moreover, the ease with which African diamonds are obtained makes diamonds from elsewhere uncompetitive. Independent diamond miners with boats suck diamonds off the seabed near Namibia with giant vacuum cleaners.
De Beers, which controls 90% of diamond sales, has been implicated in illegally trading in smuggled diamonds, ivory and rhino horn. It has been implicated in ill-treatment of black miners. The 17 Charterhouse Street, that is the DeBeers cartel's London headquarters is the center of the world diamond industry. Its subsidiary centers are Tel Aviv, Antwerp, and Vancouver.
Most importantly of course is the role of De Beers in the supply mechanism. US companies that are dependent on DeBeers Cartel included Tiffany's, Winston's, and most of the leading Fifth Avenue jewellers.
The Industry's Strategy for Survival
In the last 5 years, the industry has come under attack from concerned groups. In its demise the diamond industry is grasping for straws and asking help from the mining industry in general. By portraying the diamond boycott as an anti-mining lobby, they hope to get all kind of raw materials producers on their side.
This is in addition to outright violence, intimidation, and graft including bribery. The industry has used monopoly power, and other forms of underhanded market manipulation. Its targets have included individuals, companies, and whole states. De Beers has a lot of control over leading public relations companies, has quashed investigative documentaries that attempted to expose the industry.
