MESSAGE FROM THE AUF GENERAL SECRETARY
With the creation of the African Union, a federation with a parliamentary government, the reality grows ever closer of a sovereign Africa capable of protecting our communities from the vagaries and ravages of a world that has divided, suffocated and broken so many of us for so long.
The founding of the African Union, a young and great federation and country, led by a President who is chosen by the grand Pan African Parliament, is the culmination of hundreds of years of struggle to re-unify Africa.
It is exemplary, prophetic and fitting that the first President of the African Union is a woman, consistent with that exceptionally noble tradition throughout Africa's pre-colonial past. The election of Gertrude Mongella to Africa's highest political office attests to Africa's historic memory, as well as to Africa's legendary heritage of unity in its immense, rich and beautiful diversity.
The liberating, empowering and ennobling formation of the grand parliament is especially fitting, but also awe-inspiring, for a nation whose name, Africa, means "land of perfection, goodness, nobility, and beauty". A nation that counts among its great accomplishments the birth of humanity itself, and the invention, preservation and advancement of civilization.
The African Unification Front supports those policies that promote African dignity, those policies that honour our ancestors, those policies that will protect the freedom of our descendants. The AUF exists for the purpose of fostering and defending an economic, social and political order that appeals to the civil and historic sensibilities of Africans, order that is a product of African freedom.
The tragic events of our history, including the Baqt of 652 AD, and the Berlin West Africa Conference of 1885, have defined our existence for too long. The legacy of ancient injustices is a series of modern tragedies that include genocide, mass starvation, unprecedented levels of confinement, and exclusion of Africans from participating and leading in the great projects of human civilization.
Our people have died at a rate unseen since the height of slavery in the 19th century. African communities across the globe have been plundered and polluted. Because of these and other tragedies, it is the mission and responsibility of every person of conscience to defeat all neocolonialist assaults and impositions on Africa. We are commited to harnessing the strength and the resolve of our downtrodden communities for the good of all humanity.
Human security is compromised in too many places around the world. We have a duty to humanity to stand firm in the face of wanton destruction of nature and diversity. A free and united Africa that is true to itself, that believes in advancing human rights, justice, compassion, and valour, is the last best hope for human civilization. We must nurture life in all its forms, we must hold human dignity in precious esteem, and we must never compromise our duty to our fallen comrades and ancestors who have suffered and died so that we can live honourably.
In the name of our ancestors, for the sake of our descendants, and for the good of all of humanity. May we forever stand true to our God, true to our native land.
Best regards,
Dan Kashagama
AUF General Secretary
