KEY INSTITUTIONS OF THE AFRICAN UNION
The institutions described as "Organs" of the African Union are the institutions that constistute the Union Government. Some institutions known as "organs" are mandated by the Abuja Treaty [1991] establishing the African Economic Community. Other "organs" such as NEPAD and the Mechanism for Conflict Resolution, the African Development Bank, and regional parliaments, are mandated by other treaties and conventions. All other institutions are mandated by the African Union's treaty making process, such as the African Postal Union, and are responsible to the Pan African Parliament collectively or individually.
